Every patient I have seen since we reopened in June has struggled, especially during the stay at home order. Many reverted to unhealthy eating or drinking habits. Some stopped their supplement programs and medications. Most became absorbed with social media and news. Others could not find alternatives to gyms or recreation centers and haven’t exercised. And for good reason. Some are missing face-to-face contact with friends, co-workers and loved ones. Many are on Zoom overload and managing working at home for the first time. Others are grieving the death of a loved one on top of the additional stress COVID-19 has wrought. Then there is the question of how school will reopen. Everyone felt pulled toward these behaviors despite knowing at some level, they weren’t helpful.
It’s okay. We are living in unprecedented times. COVID-19 creates a layer of stress on top of the usual stressors of life. It’s okay if you don’t feel “fine.” I don’t always feel “fine.”
Current infection rates in Johnson County, Kansas at this time are comparable to this past April. Coronavirus is now in the community, not just in nursing homes, plants and factories. Mask wearing, physical distancing and hand hygiene are critical. I also strongly advise avoiding gatherings of more than 10 people. And, our healthy habits are more important than ever before. They can make the difference between avoiding COVID-19, getting a mild case, or a contracting a deadly one.
So, why are we pulled toward unhealthy habits when we know better?
We’re in a Wobble
The Coronavirus has shook-up the world as we once knew it. It’s changing our world in big ways and fast. It’s as if the ground—everything we thought we knew about the world—is changing, literally moving under our feet. This can make us feel unsteady, anxious and fearful, thus the term “wobble.”
While a wobble is disruptive, it also has great power because with change comes opportunity, or a point, or points, of choice. According to Chloe Faith Wordsworth, the developer of the Resonance Repatterning process, that choice is to “spiral up” to a higher energy state or “spiral down” to a lower energy state. When you are falling into a hole of thoughts and behaviors that make it even more difficult to respond to the stress and disruption of the wobble, you are living in a lower, out-of-sync energy state, rather than enjoying the health, happiness and ease that is available to you, if you are aligned with it. Lower energy states manifest in numerous ways such as pain, any medical condition, worry, anxiety, depression, overeating, low motivation, dissatisfaction and relationship issues. Through the Resonance Repatterning process you can find out what you are aligned with that is keeping you in a lower energy state. This knowledge brings the subconscious to light and creates a point of choice. Through the Resonance Repatterning process, you can bring your out-of-sync energies back into sync and spiral up into a higher energy state that is more aligned with choices that are positive and life-giving. Instead of using will-power, you may find you “just don’t go there anymore.” If you can’t maintain this energy state, additional sessions can improve your ability to stay aligned and continue to spiral-up.
